I really love this quote by Maya Angelou:
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said,
people will forget what you did,
but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
I have to be honest – this is nowhere near the type of wisdom that has guided the majority of my life. I’ve been focused on:
- Trying to accomplish my goals
- Communicating clearly to those with whom I interact
- I don’t care ’bout your “feelings”
This is, unfortunately, not the best way to nurture relationships. And I’ve had to learn that the hard way.
Because ultimately, the most important “accomplishment” in life is developing quality relationships.
Having a child (thank GOD I finally got one) has really changed my entire perspective on life. I KNOW that the most important thing is not her education or even nutrition (although those aspects are very important)… but it’s the relationship she has with me and Jorge.
And I have consciously made the decision to prioritize her wellbeing over other priorities in this life – and I know that in years to come, that investment will pay dividends.
But back to feelings…
