Hump Day Happy Hour!
Maybe I’m late to the game, but I finally held my first streaming concert last Wednesday, Sponsored my City of Tempe Arts in the Parks. I guess I just needed to get paid up front to have the motivation to finally do something live, ha. But it went really well, and I will be hosting a “Hump Day Happy Hour with Rebecca De La Torre” each Wednesday at 5p for the month of May. Jorge can’t join me for all of them but at least once a month we can arrange it.
Part of me is wondering what will happen this summer – I can’t really continue them in Washington because my internet up there isn’t fast enough. But maybe I can do something with low resolution… idk, maybe call it “deep woods, low res” or something ridiculous. But I can’t let concerns about summer challenges, or even baby challenges keep me from connecting with the people that want to hear my music. So I’m starting here.
In AZ, we are finally starting to lift some of the lockdown – salons are opening up again on Friday and restaurants next Monday. That’s good. I’m happy for them and particularly glad to be able to get my nails done. I was about to do my own nails this week – that’s how desperate I was. (I’m actually, surprisingly good at doing my own gel nails but it takes me THREE HOURS as opposed to less than an hour with my nail tech, Michelle).
It makes me wonder if people will care about me performing on Wednesdays. Will people care anymore if they can just go back to their favorite happy hour spot? Maybe, maybe not. But I’m committed to it regardless. I’m trying to find a way to make this more interesting than just me in front of a camera singing/playing some songs. I want to turn it into a weekly show, potentially. I already have some surprises in store for the coming weeks… so we’ll see how it goes.
In the mean time, be sure to check my Live calendar for performances (streaming and eventually in-person), particularly my Hump Day Happy Hour for the Wednesdays in May at 5p PST. You can check out replays on my Latest Streaming Shows link as well. If you want to make sure you never miss a show and qualify for my free merch give-away drawings (hint, the give-away will be part of my live shows going forward!), then just give me your name and email address here and I’ll add you to my contacts so you always get my emails!
